A Multidimensional Approach to Climate Change Discourse
摘要
This study examines climate change discourse in several selected mainstream and tabloid Malaysian newspapers. Following the interdisciplinary and data-driven nature of this project, a mixed-method approach encompassing corpus linguistics, sentiment analysis, Appraisal Theory, Critical Discourse analysis (CDA), and ecolinguistics analysis is employed. The selection of the analytical tools and theoretical bases is motivated by the need to provide both a general, empirically grounded overview of language patterns and a more interpretive exploration of their ideological implications. Data are sourced from two major English language newspapers in Malaysia, New Straits Times (NST) for mainstream perspective, and Malaysiakini for tabloid/alternative media outlets. This chapter describes the design, data collection, corpus construction, analytical framework, and data analysis procedure.
