In a European landscape marked by accelerated energy transition and ambitious decarbonization targets, Sustainable Development Goal 7 (SDG7), which aims to ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and clean energy for all, plays a strategic role in the integrated architecture of the European Green Deal and the sustainability policy framework. However, simply quantifying progress through aggregate indicators is not sufficient to reflect the complexity and heterogeneity of energy performance across Member States. Thus, assessing ecological efficiency becomes crucial to understanding how energy resources are transformed into productive outputs while minimizing negative environmental impacts, in particular greenhouse gas emissions.
