Peddlers of Propaganda: Academic Copaganda, the Neoliberal University and the Police
摘要
Copaganda is a form of propaganda that is centred on the coverage of the police by the mainstream media. It explains how journalists and media outlets help to strengthen or amplify misleading narratives about the role of police within society. The neoliberal university is a key source of copaganda, as it supplies many of the experts that the mainstream media use to prop up the institution of policing. Academic copaganda involves police-centred propaganda that originates within the academic community or institutions of higher education. The chapter explores two interrelated forms of academic copaganda, which include (1) scholarship and research and (2) programme development and teaching. The chapter also explores the nexus between knowledge production and the maintenance of dominant discourses about the police and social order.
