Anxiety and Possibility: The Demonic in the Good Place
摘要
There is perhaps no better visualization of anxiety than Edvard Munch’s 1894 painting of the same name. The subject in the forefront is too close, the faces are too effaced, the composition is too unbalanced, and the lines are too wavering. The painter masters the presentation of anxiety, and the theme plays a dominant role throughout his work. The Scream is Munch’s most famous painting and, due to its prominence, tends to stand on its own. However, when interpreted within the entirety of Munch’s corpus, a more nuanced interpretation appears. The isolation and the fear of The Scream are placed in the context of angst.
