It is interesting to note that the two most often credited as the fathers of existentialism had polarizing opinions of religion. One considered religion, specifically Christianity, the bane of society and called for the death of God. The other, while rejecting institutionalized Hegelian Christianity, deemed the religious life the epitome of human existence. The former was of course Friedrich Nietzsche (1813–1855) and the latter the subject of our present study.
