The Last King of Scotland: Working with a Corrupt Regime
摘要
A freshly graduated Scottish physician flies to Uganda to work at a missionary clinic. He later abandons this job to become the personal doctor of General Idi Amin Dada, the country’s new president. But he soon sinks in a tremendous dilemma when he realizes that Amin’s rule is soaked in blood, and that he is complicit in the atrocities. The key themes of the film include acceptance of gifts, conflict of interest, and crossing boundaries. Another subjacent theme to be explored is the role of medical professionals in the context of humanitarian crisis in developing countries and the cultural shock that this may entail, particularly when preparedness is lacking.
