This study examines the relationship between perceived cybersecurity risk and the development of e-commerce in Ecuadorian businesses. Using data from the 2022 Structural Business Survey, logistic regression models were applied to assess the impact of cybersecurity concerns on e-commerce performance. The findings indicate that higher perceived cybersecurity risk significantly reduces the likelihood of businesses engaging in e-commerce activities. Investments in cybersecurity and technological maturity were found to have a limited, non-significant effect on reducing perceived risk. However, companies with higher e-commerce levels appear to have adopted more robust cybersecurity strategies, effectively mitigating these concerns. This research underscores the importance of integrating cybersecurity into organizational culture and operations to ensure the safe expansion of e-commerce in emerging markets like Ecuador. The study highlights the need for a holistic approach, combining technological investments with employee training and awareness to reduce cyber threats. These findings provide valuable insights for policymakers and businesses aiming to foster secure e-commerce growth.
