The purposes, construction and images of zoos are changing in visual and human/animal worlds from displays of caged species for public display to growing concerns about animal rights and welfare. These are considered 2.0 media worlds where visualization is a central focus in a zoo’s presentation, preservation and education missions. We explore these visual media changes in a growing interdisciplinary scholarly world by examining the websites of three major world zoos: San Diego, Berlin, and Singapore. The words and images on their websites include photos of zoo species in constructed environmental settings and opportunities for visitors to learn about caring, conservation and preservation priorities. The “visual” is central to their missions and success.

摘要
