This research examines the wholistic health impacts of an 8-day Anishinaabemowin (Ojibwe language) land-based immersion course. Grounded in Indigenous pedagogies, the program was developed and taught by an Elder and Knowledge Holders who integrate language learning with ceremony, song, and reciprocal relationships with the land. The study posits that the disconnection from language and community caused by colonization and the COVID-19 pandemic has contributed to poor health outcomes. Through a mixed-methods approach utilizing surveys and interviews, the research analyzes changes in participants’ mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. Findings indicate that the immersive experience of learning on the land within a supportive community acts as a healing process, fostering clarity, strength, and a profound understanding of foundational concepts like reciprocity (Miigwetch).

摘要
