Multimodal Remote Watching System Using an Avatar Robot

Sports games are held in many countries around the world, and many people are enthusiastic about them. Previous studies have reported that spectators become one with the players and spectators of the team they are cheering for and share emotional experiences among them. However, it is difficult for people with physical disabilities to go out and watch a game in person, and if they can have an experience similar to watching a game in person at home, it is expected to further improve their sports viewing experience. In this study, we developed a multimodal remote viewing system using a telepresence avatar robot that combines visual presentation by smart glasses and tactile presentation with a cushion-type tactile display. The results showed the effectiveness of the smart glasses and the tactile display in this system in the sense of presence, and, psychological effects.
