Industry 5.0 and Quality 5.0: A Framework for the Next Generation of Operational Excellence
摘要
This paper proposes a conceptual framework that integrates Industry 5.0 and Operational Excellence Models, aiming to guide organizations toward next-generation Operational Excellence. Building on the evolution from Industry 4.0, this study aims to demonstrate how a human-centric, resilient, and sustainable approach to quality management can leverage emerging digital technologies to enhance quality. A systematic literature review identified the core principles of Industry 5.0 and mapped existing OPEX Models. The systematic coding and categorization of key themes from the 114 reviewed articles resulted in a conceptual framework that aligns Excellence Models with the objectives of Industry 5.0. The proposed framework highlights: (i) a strengthened role for soft skills (leadership, communication) in the context of advanced quality management; (ii) the use of enabling technologies to support resilient and sustainable processes; and (iii) the interdependence between human centricity and operational performance. It has been demonstrated how the incorporation of Quality 5.0 can enhance digitization while maintaining a focus on the human factor and sustainability. The model provides initial guidelines for managers and academics to implement quality strategies aligned with Industry 5.0. However, it is limited by the absence of empirical validation and scarce application in diverse geographical contexts beyond Europe. This study is innovative in synthesizing emerging concepts of Industry 5.0 and Excellence Models into a single conceptual framework, providing an integrated vision that guides future empirical work and industrial initiatives toward truly human-centred and sustainable quality management.
