Communication and Collaboration
摘要
This chapter underscores the centrality of communication in presidential leadership, portraying it as the thread that weaves together relationships with trustees, faculty, staff, students, elected officials, and community stakeholders. Through the lens of a fictional president’s day, the chapter illustrates how effective communication fosters trust, transparency, and institutional cohesion. Tailored strategies for engaging each constituency group are presented. For example, when considering trustees, it is important to provide structured meetings, clear reporting, and liaison roles. For elected officials, the chapter advocates for regular briefings, advocacy tools, and informal networking. Community engagement is supported through public events, newsletters, and partnerships. Using the Challenge Framework, the chapter guides presidents through diagnosing communication breakdowns, preparing inclusive strategies, implementing multi-modal outreach, and following up with stakeholder feedback. A case study on crisis communication during a campus emergency illustrates the importance of timely, centralized messaging and community reassurance.
