From Entitlement to Eligibility: Transition Age in Individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities

Navigating the transition-age period for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities requires careful planning well before the individual reaches the age of majority. The clinician should not only be aware of common emotional changes and co-occurring psychiatric conditions, but also be able to guide their patients and caregivers to legal and financial resources that will provide the individuals with services and support throughout adulthood.
