This chapter explores sex workers experiences with leaving sex work. This includes the research documenting their formal engagements in and with ‘exiting’ programs and their own working practices. By exploring the research in this area, we create a picture of how sex workers ‘exit’ or disengage with sex work, but do this from the perspective of labour market conditions and employment practices, and a broader consideration of stigma and discrimination that includes intra-occupational forms of stigma. Ultimately, the chapter highlights the misalignment of sex workers' diverse experiences with current theories and frameworks, allowing us to consider alternative framings more apt at capturing their lived experiences.
