People with sleep-disordered breathing (SDB) experience impairments in orofacial muscles and functions. Understanding the characteristics that differentiate this population from individuals without SDB, as well as how to assess them, is essential for professionals. In this chapter, we provide a detailed explanation of the expanded orofacial myofunctional evaluation with scores (OMES-E) protocol, which has been validated for individuals with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Additionally, we have compiled findings from various studies to clarify which aspects deserve special attention in both children and adults with SDB. This will enhance evaluations and diagnoses, potentially influencing therapeutic planning in a positive way.

摘要
