Women and men jointly face daily challenges with the aim of preserving mutual respect. However, there are instances where women are perceived as secondary citizens, contending with various oppressions across different domains, particularly in the economic sphere. They are often relegated to the role of individuals expected to stay at home, excluded from active involvement in economic pursuits. Despite the improvements over time, women still grapple with the significant dilemma of having to make a tough choice between home responsibilities and professional aspirations. Achieving sustainable growth and development are amoung the main aims of the countries. Given that women make up half of the population, it is crucial not to overlook their contributions to the economy. This paper aims to present the current roles and contributions of women in Türkiye’s economic landscape. We examined and compared unemployment rates of women and men. Additionally, we investigsted the factors impeding women’s participation in the labour force and explored potential variations based on age and education. Marital status had been compared between women and men in terms of employment rates, and the employment status of women in various occupations had been presented. These analyses had been conducted using data from TURKSTAT. Finally, we turned to international data, utilizing databases from the World Bank and the United Nations, for a comparative assessment of the status of Turkish women relative to other nations. We believe that this paper can assist policymakers in making beneficial decisions to avoid gender inequality.
