Somewhere Over the Rainbow: Moving Toward an LGBTQIA-Inclusive Philippine Psychology
摘要
Globally, the field of LGBTQ + psychology has advanced significantly; however, in the Philippines the absence of a formal LGBTQ + psychology curriculum has hindered efforts to critically engage with the field’s enduring challenges, including colonial legacies, religious ideologies, sociocultural norms, and sociopolitical constraints. Heteronormative and patriarchal systems continue to shape Filipino everyday life including social norms, family dynamics, and institutional practices. To address this concern a move toward an LGBTQIA-inclusive Philippine Psychology has taken place in the past decade. This chapter outlines the key contributions of Filipino psychology researchers, educators, advocates, and practitioners in making Philippine Psychology more LGBTQIA-inclusive. While LGBTQ + psychology in the Philippines continues to evolve, this chapter argues that addressing the invisibility of LGBTQ + Filipinos must be a central priority. Despite ongoing challenges, there are hopeful futures for building safer spaces over the rainbow in the Philippines.
