Introducing DIGICOMPASS Junior
摘要
This opening chapter introduces DIGICOMPASS Junior, a developmentally responsive adaptation of the original framework for learners aged 9–12. It establishes a foundation for global language education by positioning plurilingualism, intercultural competence, and global citizenship as essential, interdependent dimensions. The chapter distinguishes between language learning and language education, reframing the latter as a relational, inclusive approach that prepares children to navigate a diverse, interconnected world. It challenges static pairings of language and culture, highlights children’s lived linguistic repertoires, and advocates for fluid understandings of identity and belonging. The developmental focus on grades 4–6 is explored, along with the framework’s support for interdisciplinary integration. The chapter concludes by revisiting the compass as a guiding symbol, now joined by the image of a seed—representing how global competencies take root and grow from an early age.
