The article analyzes the collected material on the Altai RepublicRepublic and highlights the development of tourismTourism as the main direction of regionalismRegionalism policyPolicy. It is determined that the countries of the “quartet” of the Greater AltaiGreater Altai—RussiaRussia, ChinaChina, Kazakhstan, and Mongolia have chosen the cluster way of tourism development by the example of Euroregions. The purpose of this study is to identify the development trend of the Altai Republic in the context of regionalismRegionalism policy. The ideology and practice of building seven tourist clusters are highlighted. The reasons for the emergence and ways of resolving conflict situations arising around the construction of the All-Union resort “Manzherok” are described. On the basis of the analysisAnalysis of the published information of mass media, the role of the head of the investor “Sberbank” G.O. Gref is highlighted. An assessment of the confrontation of his main opponents—entrepreneurs of small and medium-sized local tourist businessBusiness—is given. In the process of research, the authors made statements that the cluster way of regional tourism development is not supported by local entrepreneurs. The collected data indicate that the local population, both Russians and Altaians, are concerned about environmental problems and ways to solve them. The issue of land, its realization and use, the loss of rural lands, territories for failed projects, such as “Altai Valley” in Maiminsky district, remains relevant. The process of strengthening the image of the Altai RepublicRepublic as the ancestral home of Turkic people has been revealed. The dissemination of cultural codes of the Altai people with the support of tourism is noted on the example of the theme park “Keeper of the Greater Altai”Greater Altai in “Manzherok.” At the same time, there is the creation of images passed off as “Altai,” such as the naked “Golden Women” on the top of Mount Sinyukha. The authors emphasize that the problems of tourismTourism prosperity are connected not only with the ecology of nature and cultureCulture, but also with the social boundary in the living standards of the local population and visitors from megapolises and industrial regions.
