This chapter explores the nature of the energy transition toward renewable technologies in Mexico. It focuses on the relevance of the threat posed by climate change, an emergency primarily derived from the effects of fossil fuel combustion. It argues that, under existing technological conditions in Mexico, the gap between the energy density of fossil fuels and the potential energy of renewable technologies—the exergy of alternative technologies—in addition to the energy policy shift of the last seven years, makes the transition to a predominance of renewable energy an unlikely scenario even in these times. Given the energy requirements demanded by population and economic growth, greater adjustments and investments are required, especially in infrastructure and transition technology. Such is the case of bioenergy, which has significant untapped potential but can be used in circular models for agroindustry, urban areas, etc.

摘要
