The Psychology of Groups Part II: Group Conflict, Issues of Leadership, Group Apathy, and Dissolution
摘要
This chapter examines the psychological dimensions of group work, focusing on conflict, leadership, apathy, and dissolution. It challenges the notion that conflict is inherently destructive, presenting it as a catalyst for growth when constructively managed. Drawing on scholars such as Omisore, Akgun, and Tjosvold, it outlines varied responses to conflict and their effects on cohesion. The chapter highlights how perceived expertise and classroom hierarchies shape collaboration before tasks begin. Leadership is discussed as both formal and informal, with emphasis on its influence on group climate. Attention is also given to apathy, Schadenfreude, and resistance. The chapter concludes that thoughtful design and leadership mitigate many psychological risks.
