This chapter introduces the scope, purpose, and methodological framework of a study examining how group work is implemented and experienced in Caribbean tertiary institutions. It begins by outlining the pedagogical rationale for group work and the tensions surrounding assessment fairness, contribution, and accountability. Research objectives include understanding why lecturers adopt or avoid group work, identifying patterns across faculties, and exploring evaluation practices. Assumptions include the enduring value of group work and the honesty of participant responses. The study involves forty-seven lecturers from thirteen Caribbean countries across diverse disciplines. Using a sequential explanatory mixed-methods design, the chapter clarifies research procedures, limitations, and context, providing the foundation for subsequent analysis.
