This chapter presents a personal account of one lecturer’s evolving relationship with group work, tracing a journey from solitary struggle to collaborative discovery and professional conviction. Framed by an undergraduate experience in mathematics, the narrative highlights how traditional individualistic environments discourage inquiry and foster isolation. An unexpected tutoring session, which develops into a peer-led study group, reveals the cognitive and emotional value of collaboration. Success is redefined as mutual growth rather than solitary mastery. During graduate studies in economics, group work reappears as a lifeline. These experiences inspire deeper inquiry into group work in Caribbean tertiary institutions, shaping guiding questions for the monograph.
