Their Story, Our History: Some Conclusions After First Post-Lockdown Live Stage Performances: An Experience in Madrid and Sevilla: ON AIR, 2021
摘要
The chapter discusses the lessons learned from live stage experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic, focusing on the case of the play ON AIR, which was staged in Madrid and Sevilla in 2020 as a revision of Orson Welles and Cole Porter’s music theatre play Around the World In 80 Days. As a free version of Jules Verne’s novel with new characters and scenes, Welles and Porter’s play was premiered in 1946 as a celebration of relief and peace after WWII. As a free revision of that version, strongly linked to pandemic social context and the new need for a “Security Nearness”, the performances of ON AIR were underlined by critics, the audience and performers as an experience of catharsis and well-being. The research explores the emotional impact and collective well-being experienced by both performers and spectators in the context of the pandemic. The artistic and sociological conclusions of worldwide stage experiences like this may be a key tool for future times.
