Plastic Pollution in the Wildlife of the Americas: A Bibliometric Analysis
摘要
Plastic waste pollution in aquatic ecosystems poses a threat to various levels of the food chain. Wildlife is exposed to this contamination and cases have been reported of obstruction of the digestive tract that can cause the death of the animals, in addition to other secondary effects on their reproduction and body condition. Nevertheless, accurately assessing the actual impact of this contamination on wildlife proves to be a complex endeavor. These species function as environmental sentinels, as they reflect the conditions of the ecosystem in which they live. It is increasingly common to identify the presence of macro, meso and microplastics ingested by these species. Objective: The objective of this work was to identify the different species of wildlife in which the presence of plastic particles has been evidenced in the American continent. Methodology: For this analysis, a bibliometric analysis was performed using the software VOS Viewer software. Conclusions: Among the taxonomic groups that ingest plastic particles, birds are the most reported.
