Sustainability and Economic Regeneration: The Strategic Role of Coworking Spaces
摘要
The evolution of coworking, a phenomenon that has become established in the sharing economy and the growing spread of freelance workers, has transformed the way we conceive workspaces. These flexible environments promote collaboration, knowledge sharing and community building, breaking away from traditional offices with values such as flexibility, social interaction and networking. In Italy, Milan has seen rapid adoption of coworking spaces, supported by municipal incentives, while other cities such as Rome, despite economic difficulties, are establishing initiatives that promote innovation. Globally, coworking has seen significant economic growth, increasing profitability margins thanks to contractual flexibility and reduced fixed costs. Coworking spaces have also become vehicles for sustainability, promoting urban regeneration by reusing disused buildings, reducing environmental impact and stimulating the local economy. This study aims to analyze how coworking can contribute to the urban regeneration of peripheral areas in Italy, examining three coworking spaces and their economic, social and environmental impact. The results highlight the strategic role of coworking in creating sustainable and collaborative work models, answering the question of how these spaces can stimulate a positive urban transformation in peripheral areas.
