Fundamentals of Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity in Cyber-Physical Systems: A Foundational Perspective

Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) which represent the convergence of computational and information system with physical processes. These systems use embedded computers, sensors and actuators to monitor and control physical processes in real-time. CPSs are designed to be interconnected and intelligent with the aid of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Robust cybersecurity measures are critical to their functionality and resilience. This chapter explores the fundamental principles of AI in CPS framework and cybersecurity providing a comprehensive overview of their roles, synergies and challenges. It begins by introducing CPS and the transformative impact of AI and the significance of cybersecurity in CPS. The chapter discussion extends to cybersecurity emphasizing the importance of safeguarding CPS against evolving security breach and threat and also emphasize the role of blockchain in ensuring secure communication within the CPS network. The chapter emphasize the role of AI as an enabler of advance security measures and potential target for malicious exploitations.
