The evolution in the digital space has tremendously promoted the proverbial wits embedded in the utilization of political ideology in the local culture of Yorùbá community. Proverbs that give credence to age are usually employed in political discourse on digital platforms because of the socio-political effects that they have on society. The venerations accorded to elders in human culture are a testament to the significance of the operation of proverbial culture in human society. This study examines how proverbs are exploited in political communication among Yorùbá people with a focus on exploring the underlying purposes for deploying the proverbs and the inferences they generate in political communication. It also investigates the strategies users deploy while using proverbial expressions in political interactions on X platform. This study is descriptive by adopting qualitative content analysis, in which proverbial Yorùbá tweets on X platform were purposively selected for analysis. Linguistic Communication and Speech Act was employed as the theoretical framework which was utilized to underscore the study. The study reveals that proverbs are utilised by X users to communicate far beyond what is literally stated as they promote the traditions, customs and values of the people. The study concludes that proverbial culture has become a lingering nomenclature in communicating leadership and politics even on digital political interactions on X.
