This study adopted a case study approach to analyse existing recovery frameworks and identify the key factors for effective recovery. Effective tsunami recoveryTsunami recovery is not solely dependent on financial resources and physical reconstruction. Culture and social dynamics are critical in recovery efforts. Factors for an effective recovery identified include disaster preparednessDisaster preparedness, level of community participation, restoration of livelihoods, infrastructure rebuilding, psychosocial well-being, social cohesion, equity in recovery assistance, and robust monitoring and evaluation mechanisms. However, corruption, maladaptation, and failure to address local needs remain challenging. The study offers a blueprint for future disaster recovery strategies and proposes a disaster recovery framework.
