Many viruses go away on their own, but some cause life-threatening or chronic illnesses. In Africa, viruses, owing partly to poor living conditions, hygiene practices, and attitudes, appear to wreak more havoc. This chapter will focus on the burden of viral diseases on the psychosocial well-being of Africans. The components of psychosocial well-being to be examined include emotional, social, environmental, cognitive, and spiritual satisfaction of a person. The aforementioned elements represent an important but neglected link in holistically understanding the viral disease burden of Africans. This chapter will fill those identified knowledge gaps and help in better understanding the subject under review.

摘要
