Every environmental problem from plastics in the ocean to greenhouse gas (GHG)-driven climate change is the result of human technology, and technology can be used to solve them all. The current overarching problem is climate change. If this is not addressed, the other environmental problems won’t really matter. We are sliding into a period of climate instability from our overheated atmosphere with the Earth now committed to some amount of climate change no matter what, but we must prevent it from becoming even worse. Human civilization can adapt to moderate amounts of climate change, but if it goes to extremes, flooding coastal cities and rendering parts of the planet uninhabitable, it will be a much more difficult problem.
