Introduction: Education and the Politics of Time
摘要
With this introduction, we highlight the politics implied in time in education, drawing on various theoretical sources, scholarly work, and empirical examples from the chapters in our edited volume as well as the movie Entre les murs. Our aim is to scaffold not only the reading of the following chapters (and their mutual relationships), but also future research in education on the politics of time. Hence, this introduction offers concepts of time (material time and directional time), concepts of the politics of time (temporal reforms, economies of time, ontological politics of time, temporal biopolitics, and neoliberal politics of time), methodological tensions (objective versus subjective time, time versus space, and fixed versus flexible time), and empirical domains of the politics of time in education (institutional time, teachers’ time, and students’ time). We hope that these concepts can be of use to others.
