This study explores the efficacy of two AI-based mobile applications, ELSA Speak and Mondly, those specialized in improving English pronunciation and spoken fluency with individuals learning English as a second language. Using a quasi-experimental approach, 40 university EFL learners, split in two groups each one using one app for four weeks. after that PRAAT took part in the study, it is acoustic software and CEFR-based pronunciation rubrics were employed in analysis of pre and post-test recordings to measure segmental and suprasegmental developments. Learner attitudes were also collected with questionnaires and reflection journals to measure their engagement, motivation, and fluency. Quantitative results revealed that vowels articulation and stress accuracy benefit from ELSA Speak, with speaker pitch being better captured as compared to Mondly, which in turn allowed for enhanced conversational fluency and dialogue realism. The paper finds that each tool has its unique pedagogical benefits and proposes a hybrid model for combining the two, offering complementary effects for educational enrichment. These results have implications for both language teachers, curriculum makers and developers of educational technology who are using AI applications in the more general context of second language learning.
