Interdisciplinary art-science projects play a pivotal role in advancing Ocean Literacy by linking scientific knowledge with creative expression. Art and culture serve as influential vehicles that engage society on both emotional and intellectual levels, making complex Ocean issues accessible and inspiring broader audiences. The WE ARE OCEAN_Wadden Sea project, delivered by the curatorial collective ARTPORT_making waves, exemplifies how such projects can empower youth to take concrete, informed action toward Ocean conservation. This chapter highlights the potential of these collaborations to raise scientific understanding and political awareness through the arts. WE ARE OCEAN_Wadden Sea fostered participating students’ awareness of humanity’s deep interdependence with the Ocean, prompting shifts in perception that encourage behavioral change and social responsibility. Through experiential and embodied learning methods, the project offered immersive experiences that cultivated a profound personal connection to the Ocean, ultimately driving both social and political engagement.
