Risperdal Consta® was the first second-generation long-acting injectable (LAI) antipsychotic medication developed. When initially designed, it brought the potential benefits of being an atypical antipsychotic with improved adherence to an LAI. When Risperdal Consta® was approved in 2003, it marked a milestone in the treatment of schizophrenia. LAIs have expanded technology to increase administration intervals and ease of administration since then. Risperdal Consta® recently became available as a generic agent. This chapter provides clinical pearls on how to appropriately prescribe and administer Risperdal Consta®.
