The Standard Model (SM) of particle physics is a quantum field theory successfully describing all the ordinary matter in terms of fundamental fields, as well as three of the four fundamental interactions. This chapter is a short introduction to the SM, its success, its open questions, and its possible generalisations, with an emphasis on supersymmetric (SUSY) theories and the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model. Non-SUSY extensions of the SM, such as SU(5) and extra dimensions, are also briefly mentioned. It first introduces the SM, then discusses the SUSY formalism and, finally, provides a couple of examples of other beyond the Standard Model theories.

摘要
