How the Environmental Grotesque Works: Testing Its Impact Experimentally
摘要
This chapter argues that empirical evidence is necessary to understand the social impact of the environmental grotesque and that it can best be provided by experimental research. The general nature of experimental research is explained, along with the main requirements for studying the impact of the environmental grotesque experimentally. These include choosing a target population, empirically operationalizable constructs of the environmental grotesque and hypothesized outcome variables (i.e., the variables it is expected to influence, such as climate action intentions), psychometrically appropriate measures of those outcome variables, and falsifiable hypotheses.
