Elemental Analysis of Fresh Water Algae Zygnema Cruciatum (Vaucher) C. Agardh from District Jamshoro Pakistan
摘要
Zygnema consists of hundred species, it is thalloid, filamentous freshwater genus. Zygnema is known as terrestrial species. Zygnema usually grows as a filament of free-floating mass and it is usually fixed with the help of rhizoid in creek-bed. A scrambled rug of yellow-green to bright green color is formed by the filaments, which consists of stretched cells of the shape of a barrel, arrangement of chloroplasts with the axis of cell is like two star-shaped (stellate). The freshwater algal material was collected from Almanzar, River Indus site (Jamshoro), Sindh, Pakistan, between February 2023 to February 2024. This study investigates the elemental composition of freshwater alga, Zygnema cruciatum (Vaucher) C. Agardh the research focuses on analyzing the levels of Zinc (Zn), Iron (Fe), Potassium (K), Sodium (Na), and Calcium (Ca) using Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry (AAS). Results indicate significant variations in elemental concentrations, the maximum amount is present in Zygnema cruciatum (Vaucher) C. Agardh had the highest levels of calcium [Ca] (50.530 ± 6.141%), iron [Fe] (20.362 ± 2474%), potassium [K] (11.11 ± 1.35%), and sodium [Na] (10.807 ± 1.313%). Zinc [Zn] had the lowest quantities, though, at 5.373 ± 0.653%.
