Use of Potato Peel Waste as Feed Ingredient and Determination of Its Effects on Ruminants Performance
摘要
The present study was planned to use potato waste in animal feeding and evaluate its effect on Nili Ravi buffalo bulls. Three concentrates containing 10, 20 and 30% of dried potato peel powder (DPPP) were formulated and represented as T1, T2 and T3 in 3 × 3 Latin Square Design. Daily observations on feed offered and refusal were recorded. For determination of digestibility, total collection method was used. Feces were collected on each day during collection period. Three different samples of dried potato peel powder (DPPP) were analyzed for different nutrients profile and meal values were obtained. Rumen liquor was taken from rumen at 3, 6, 9 and 12 h after feeding for calculation of pH and ammonia nitrogen. Each diet was placed in the buffalo bulls’ rumen in triplicate bags for 0, 1, 2, 4, 6, 10, 16, 24, 36, 48, 72, and 96 h in reverse sequence. All of the bags were taken out at the same time. The DPPP had no impact on intake and nutrient digestibility. The DPPP in the diet also had no impact on ruminal pH and ammonia nitrogen by adding potato waste. It could be concluded that DPPP can be used successfully upto 30% in ruminant diet without any adverse effect for cheaper ration formulation.
