Organizing Leadership: A Plea

Because it is impossible to create certainty of expectations for every situation, a need for leadership will inevitably arise. The good news, however, is that leadership needs can be anticipated and managed within certain limits. So, organizations will always remain dependent on leadership—but can use structure to significantly influence how leadership needs and opportunities are distributed. In principle, any member of the organization can take the lead—from the top down, from the bottom up, or from the side.
