Global Initiatives: Connecting the Unconnected
摘要
Connecting the unconnected is a global challenge that requires efforts at all levels, not just technological interventions, which is the supply-side solution. To build an inclusive digital economy, it is crucial to address the underlying demand-side barriers (digital literacy, gender divide, culture, and priorities), to encourage reforms in connecting all. This chapter presents an overview of meaningful connectivity and why it plays an important role in bridging the divide. The emphasis then shifts to the entire innovation lifecycle, from R&D to the commercialization of technology, goods, or services, with the goal of closing the gap. The chapter concludes by spotlighting a diverse range of the global projects and studies led by stakeholders with the goal of closing the digital divide and advancing meaningful connectivity.
