Sand exploitation in the coastal region of Merauke, South Papua, Indonesia, has caused severe environmental damage, including coastal abrasion, groundwater pollution, and infrastructure damage. Poverty, low environmental awareness, and weak law enforcement are the leading causes of this problem. Eco-marine tourism uses the cultural heritage of the Marind tribe as an alternative way to handle sustainable coastal resources. It enhances environmental awareness and assists local people in increasing their income. The indigenous knowledge or local wisdom of the Marind people, which includes traditional ecological insights and customary values, plays a vital role in establishing sustainable marine tourism. The Kali Maro Festival is a successful example of integrating local wisdom values into tourism. Even though there are possibilities, problems like lousy infrastructure and possible conflicts with other economic activities still need to be fixed. AI and ML can help protect coastal natural resources and encourage eco-marine tourism that is good for the environment. By judiciously and ethically utilizing these technologies, AI and ML can offer governments and communities more profound and accurate insights into various aspects, including natural resource mapping, environmental and social impact analysis, and more informed and data-driven decision-making.
