While solar energy dominates the continent’s renewable agenda, a diversified energy mix that includes wind, small-scale hydropower, geothermal, and biomass is essential for creating resilient, low-carbon building systems, especially in regions where solar is intermittent or less viable. The chapter examines the technical potential, regional applicability, and integration strategies for each of these energy sources, with a focus on building-scale and community-scale applications. Drawing on regional case studies and current best practices, it outlines how these resources can be leveraged to reduce energy costs, enhance reliability, and support sustainable development in both urban and rural settings.
