The maritime cultural landscape (MCL) is an appropriate framework for analysis of the sociocultural aspects of watercraft use, and swamps are not inconsistent with its application. Imbotero’s MCL is presented in a schematic model in which concentric resource and activity zones are defined by travel time/distance and transportation choices. Temporality plays an essential role in the village’s MCL, influencing land and resource uses and conceptions of liminality, stability, and permanence. Imbotero’s canoe heritage is entangled with Warrau tradition, but modern, Western influences are creating new entanglements that threaten the persistence of the heritage.
