The study explores gamification and storytelling as strategies to promote financial literacy in primary school children. It created ‘Financial Escape Room: The Money Family’, a digital educational game that transforms financial concepts into a playful and engaging experience. The goals were to develop the game and evaluate its pedagogical effectiveness. Five teachers and five classes from the third and fourth years of primary school in a Portuguese school participated in a qualitative case study with interviews, participant observation and content analysis. The game effectively developed collaboration, creativity, decision-making and problem-solving skills. Despite the positive results, challenges were found such as the lack of teacher resources and limited access to technology for some students. The study confirms the potential of immersive educational games to promote meaningful learning, showing that integrating pedagogy, technology and creativity enriches the teaching of financial education.
