Open Innovation Model in Higher Education Environments in Ecuador: Case of Loja, A University City
摘要
Open Innovation as an organizational strategy is seen as a pillar for the transfer of technology and knowledge in the ecosystem of universities. This study describes and validates the internal components and external capabilities of an open innovation model proposed for implementation in the framework of the research project “Model of open and collaborative technological innovation in public university environments in Ecuador” until the year 2021, focused on human potential as a fundamental element and on the dynamic interaction with the external environment. The proposed model was validated through a qualitative case study approach, employing expert focus groups as the primary data collection method, where the population consisted of delegates from the three universities existing in the city of Loja: Universidad Internacional del Ecuador (UIDE), Universidad Técnica Particular de Loja (UTPL) and Universidad Nacional de Loja (UNL), an interview guide was developed and applied virtually to know the opinions regarding the model of open and collaborative technological innovation in university environments in Ecuador. The results indicate that the implementation of the open innovation model in HEIs in Ecuador can have a positive impact in several areas both in improving academic performance, effective collaboration in research/extension and the development of skills of educational actors.
