Social Media: An Anxiety Trigger or Depression Relief?
摘要
There has been a notable increase in the use of social media and the Internet in Brazil in recent years, not only for social interaction or entertainment, but also for work and meeting tools, as seen during the COVID-19 pandemic. Several studies have linked this excessive use of social media to the development of mental illnesses. There is a vast literature on this subject, and many investigations point to the need to control and balance the excessive use of social media and the internet for a healthier life. This excessive use is seen as a facilitator for increased anxiety and depression. However, we did not find studies in the literature that could provide significant data for combating depression. This article presents an empirical study and questions the need for medical investigations to reflect and assist in the initial combat of depression, going in a parallel direction and with a positive view of the use of social media.
