摘要
The readiness of organizations to export their services into foreign markets is being influenced by various internal and external factors. However, the experiences of constriction organizations most especially in Nigeria is not well documented in literature, hence, this study. This paper investigates factors motivating the Nigerian construction organizations to engage in international service delivery. A quantitative research approach was employed using copies of structured questionnaire distributed to professional service firms and contractors headquartered in Lagos and Abuja. A total of 665 copies of questionnaire were distributed while 103 responded to the survey representing 15.5% response rate. Data collected were analyzed using statistical tools such as frequency, percentage, factor analysis and analysis of variance. The results show that the top five factors motivating construction organizations in exporting their services into the West African markets are improvement in global competitiveness, broadening of customer base, boosting of sales or profits from exporting, acquiring foreign knowledge to boost domestic competitiveness, and potential opportunities in target markets. Further analysis grouped the variables into six significant drivers, including external environment and regulatory pressure, strategic capacity and institutional support, market expansion and competitiveness, information access and market intermediation, export logistics and enabling conditions, and domestic market push factors. The study concludes that there are significant factors motivating exporting activities among the Nigerian construction organizations. The study recommends enhancing internal firm capabilities and providing targeted government support to improve global competitiveness of the Nigerian construction industry.
