Telepsychiatry encompasses a wide range of applications, and its use is increasingly integrated into clinical practice on a daily basis. Studies on patient and clinician satisfaction report positive outcomes in various areas, including time and cost savings, flexibility in finding and directly communicating with mental health professionals, reduced work absences, and the option for treatment from home. Furthermore, it has been found that, within the context of assessments using psychometric tools and overall therapeutic effectiveness, telepsychiatry does not differ from face-to-face therapy, particularly for anxiety and depressive disorders. It can be used as a therapeutic approach suitable for all age groups. Its benefits are observed in various settings, and it is applied within public health systems with positive outcomes. Fundamental guidelines and protocols for practicing telepsychiatry are recommended internationally. The emerging challenges include, among others, ethical and moral implications, the attitudes of mental health professionals toward the implementation of telepsychiatry, technical requirements, long-term therapeutic benefits, and the cost-effectiveness of interventions.
