In this chapter, we show how the variational principle can be utilized to generate MF theories. We begin by explaining, in terms of Hamiltonian truncation, the implicit approximation made by the mean-field ansatz. Next, we derive the Hartree-Fock equations and provide an overview of Density Functional Theory. We conclude the chapter by comparing the MF densities with those obtained from microscopic calculations.

摘要

In this chapter, we show how the variational principle can be utilized to generate MF theories. We begin by explaining, in terms of Hamiltonian truncation, the implicit approximation made by the mean-field ansatz. Next, we derive the Hartree-Fock equations and provide an overview of Density Functional Theory. We conclude the chapter by comparing the MF densities with those obtained from microscopic calculations.
